MOVIE REVIEW CHILLAR PARTY

In the good old days when the word gay still had innocent, happy connotations and bachhon ke liye "ranga rang karikram" could believe it or not gather crowds, making  films for children kept quite a few adults busy. Not that there were many belonging to this genre but barring a couple of them ,the ones made definitely were nothing to write home about. Child actors were made to act n look like adults-which resulted in a strange fantastical cocktail on screen of dwarf adults squeaking loaded dialogues. A lot has changed since then.Much botox has flown down the veins and many chiffon sareers have fluttered in the cool zephyr of  Switzerland .Films made for children now bank on the child's approval.Promotions and marketing done accordingly.

The main lesson well learnt is  that a film made for children must not be childish. Taare zameepar demonstrated how well this lesson was assimilated , Stanley ka dabba showed that the perfection of TZP too could be improved upon. This week's release bears witness to the story of yet another small film making it big.Chillar party shows that the momentum gained has been put to good use. Directors Nitesh Tiwari and Vikas Bahl have substantiated their innocuous story with some precocious actors. Tiny they may be in size but with their free spirit coming forth on camera they enthrall each one of us.

Chillar party is a gang of several boys who live in Chandan Nagar society in Mumbai. From trying to save their cricket field from dog poop to befriending the dog Bidu and saving Fatka, the film charts a course that makes us both laugh and cry. By the time we are half way through the film, buying popcorns and waiting for the climax become our major preoccupations ensuring the film has achieved half its purpose. Little Naman Jain as Jangya and Irrfan Khan as Fatak warrant a speacial mention. While jangya has the best lines and expressions of all eliciting maximum laughs, Irrfan's chemistry with his dog Bidu and silent expressions makes our hearts go out for him. By the time we are nearing the end,and the little kids are on the verge of taking on a mighty polititan in their fight for Bidu and Fatka a little voice of reason does start whispering in our heads that  the story is going a little awry but then the goodwill so far created by the characters and script help us to hold on with a smile on our face. A story that holds in its embrace such precious moments does have an artistic visa to take a small flight on the realm of fantasy.

So the film comes to its logical end and we keep waiting for the much touted Ranbir Kapoor  item song that is conspicuous by its absense. But then in a world where packeging is more imporatnt than content we are'nt surprised. For the item song our little idiot boxe would be enough but for this film a visit to the nearby theatre  a is a amust!!!

Chillar Part is bound to make big bucks!!!Go for it i say
