Now it is not every Friday that a Bollywood film releases with a shot of someones butt crack!! But the film that released this Friday has more to it than a close up of a hairy butt. It is interspersed with stomach rumblings,farts,burps ,veiled abuses and direct shit.It's called Delhi belly. We has been eagerly awaiting its release since the time a Bengali bhadralok sitting in a quaint place lost the innocent hue of his name ...Mr DK Bose will never be the same again!!We were yet to recover from the sight of 6 yr old nonchalantly singing "Bhaag DK Bose" when came the "painchar song"followed by a fully 50 cent inspired Imraan Khan saying "swity tera pyaar chaida" and we were dying for all of this to come together and for the film to be released.
Amir Khan is known to do things differently and of lady luck(in his case bespectacled)favouring him.He is also known for his idiosyncrasies .So first came his disdain for our National Film awards,then his decision to abstain from them followed by the release of his film Delhi belly that boasts of Hindi only in its "gaalis" and "gaanas". Seems like the Oscar still holds Amir's fancy.
well Oscar or no, Delhi belly is meant for higher things despite being weighed down by scatological garbage. Tashi(imraan khan), Arun(vir das) and Nitin?(kunal roy kapoor)remind us of Phil,Stu and Alan of the Hangover fame.The bachelor life,fit for rodents accommodation, chases , clashes, neurotic girlfriends and nerve wrecking situations -all keep us glued to the film.The only problem being that eating popcorn's while watching this film can prove to be injurious to health. So while motifs of dirty loos and the even dirtier ways of getting rid of the shit(literal and metaphorical) makes us screw up our noses regularly we cant shift our eyes off the screen even momentarily.
Amir Khan deserves credit for much more than just his pelvic thrust in the end credit song. He is a master in promoting his films but thankfully Delhi Belly lives up to the shit loads of expectations it created. One promotional song video after another to spoofing our prudishness at large Amir has set a new benchmark for advertising a film and teasing the audience.
No doubt then that this will prove to be a cult film in its genre. So go watch it and remember shit happens but sometimes if u look carefully it provides great material for a brilliant screenplay for a film!
