One of the major tenets of the Bhatt camp school of film making is that sleaze sells with the caveat being Emran Hashmi. Now although we agree with the first part, most of us have no choice but to witness the second. Emran Hashmi and the Bhatt camp are almost inseparable. Sex ,its desire, the various manifestations of ones sexual urges, some socially permitted and some relegated to a dark underbelly of human emotions form the mainstay of there films. Infact every time we go watch a movie made by one of the Bhatt brothers we know there wouldn't be many surprises being sprung at us. In that respect we are in safe territory. How ever its the story of Murder 2 that leads us on a gloomy ,dark journey of unease and terror.
It can hardly qualify as a sequel to the earlier Murder. It is a completely new story with new protagonists and the plot being even deadlier. I have actually no great distaste for Hashmi ,but my only problem is seeing him is the same kind of movies doing the same kind of roles. Probably the censor board ,in its list of reasons for granting a movie A certificate has somewhere added "Emran hashmi".His presence itself entailing elaborate love making scenes, a dozen kisses thrown in and violent crimes. Murder 2 being no different. 5 mins into the film and we know why this one too is not fit for child viewing not even with parental supervision. Fitting into the shoes of Mallika Sherawat with a little more class and sophistication is Jacqueline Fernandez. The camera pans delectably on every curve of her body while Emran Hashmi performs his task with now almost mathematical precision. The film keeps switching gears from the passionate love making scenes between Hashmi and Jacqueline to the gross and pathetic murders committed by a psychopath.
Its a film where the villain takes the front seat and his applause being that by the time we are half way into the film we cant even bear the sight of him. Always coming up with power packed performances, Prashant Naraynan does not disappoint us. Set in Goa the film takes a deeper look at the simmering prostitution racket , its dangers and the reasons why girls choose such a hellish existence.Prashant naraynan is a psychopath killer who kills woman mercilessly. Emraan Hashmi as Arjun Bhagwat is an ex policeman who is out to kill him. We witness the tragedy of a young girl ,Reshma played by Sulagna Panigrahi unfold as she unsuspectingly gets caught into the psychopath killers racket. Seen on the small screen ,Sulagna marks her Bollywood debut with this movie and does a commendable job. However it is Prashant Naraynan who steals the show. His act seems so real that we almost cringe. The scenes of torture, killing, bloodshed are genuinely disturbing. However the story holds forth and although i kept my eyes shut for most part of the film because of the gruesome murders ,the pace and intensity keep us glued to it.
Although such movies are too taking for a faint -hearted lot like me, I say go for Murder 2 if your palate allowes you to digest bloodshed and loud shrieks after all it has brilliant performances as its main course and sleaze up for desert!!!
