MUSIC REVIEW : ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARAA

Zindagi Na milegi dobaraa directed by Zoya Akhtar is set for release on 15 July 2011.But the music has been making waves for quite sometime. Now if you still don't have this CD on your car dashboard or in your ipod then read on to know what you are missing out on.

The IPL coming close on the heels of the Cricket World Cup meant not just delay in movie releases but also a deferral of new good  music. When finally things were getting back to normal ,music decided to strike a strange note. Scatological usage, euphemisms for bad words and hardcore Punjabi beats instead of making us stand up and take notice almost beacame deafening and run of the mill. So the first word that comes to mind when we hear the songs of Zindagi na milegi dobaraa is "fresh" and that's a relief. And the other word that comes to mind when we hear the music directors name is "consistent".

The music released by Tseries has 9 tracks in total-7 songs n 2 remixes. Composed by Shanker Ehsaan Loy ,we cant blame the lyricist for putting in that wee bit of extra effort for this one-after all its father Javed Akhter weaving magic with his pen for daughter Zoya Akhter's movie. Shanker Ehsaan Loy last paired up with Zoya Akhter for her directorial debut Luck by chance. Always known to out do themselves and spin out something different the trio don't disappoint us this time too. While Luck by chance had hues of Rajasthani folk,Thumri style n Raag Bhairavi matching step with the pace of this film ,Shanker Ehsaal Loy paint it with music reminiscent of Spanish flamenco roots. The presence of actors like Hritik,Abhay Deol ,Farhan Akhter,Katrina n Kalki make for great visual appeal and this is well balanced by the hormony of songs. Take the first track for example. Dil Dhadakne Do does get ur hearts beating. Fast ,jazzy and peppy. Sung by Suraj Jagan,Shanker Mahadevan and Joi Barua it keeps u in good humour to listen to the second track  Ik Junoon (Paint it red) . not just a hummable tune it boasts of lyrics that you are not likely to mess up with
kahein, halke halke,
jo rang hain chhalke,
ye kisse hain kal ke,
bhoola de tu
koi haule haule,
mere dil se bole,
kisika to ho le,
chal jaane de koi jaadu...
ooh! aah!
take the world and paint it red
oh! aah!
paint it red
cool it say..
shot in Spain it manages to recreate the la Tomatina festival ambiance in the song.Head toward the 3ed song and we find ourselves licking love candy.Khaabon Ke Parinday An out right romantic number ,adorned with a dream like quality it refrains from being too saccharin thus a complete hit.Who better to sing it than Mohit Chauhan and Alyssa Mendossa(daughter of Loy of shanker ehsaan loy).  Then there is Señorita, sung by the lead - Farhan, Hrithik, Abhay and Spanish singer Maria del Mar Fernández. One of the most popular tracks of the album and we are not surprised. Make sure you listen to it if you still haven't for the lovely beats and Spanish lyrics granting the song a unique flavour.
Zindagi na milegi dobaraa is an album that has the power to satiate us with good music. While the tracks that i mentioned are the more advertised ones , Der Lagi Lekin and Sooraj Ki bahoon mein are hidden gems. The first one sung by Shaker mahadevan himself has a lilting feel to it while the second  track by Dominique Cerejo and Clinton Cerejo is a feel good song leaving us asking for more. And more there is .For all Farhan akhter fans ,the actor/singer makes yet another honest and pleasant effort to woo his fans with song Toh Zinda Ho tum, this time by not singing but narrating beautiful couplets written by dad javed akhter. The 2 remixed tracks obviously serve there purpose and will definately make a place for themselves in the next saturday night party you go to. So the final verdict- off key or in tune. Definitely in tune i say, with the mood of the film, our taste and today's times. Please go buy the CD and not just download-let it be our way of saying thankyou to the wonderful team of Zindagi na milegi dobaraa for some great tracks and our mood lift.
Rating 7points on the Octave Scale!!!!
